Plaid + Meta Muse: What the Connector Can See and Do

The Plaid connector links your bank accounts to Muse. It reads balances and transactions, then answers finance questions in plain language. It never moves money. This one gets misunderstood more than most.

What it does

The connector gives Muse read-only visibility into your accounts: balances, transaction history, names, types. That unlocks questions like "how much did I spend on restaurants last month" or "summarize my cash flow this quarter."

Plaid is the same bank-linking rails thousands of fintech apps already run on. Muse didn't build its own. It plugs into Plaid's, which means Plaid spent a decade hardening the linking step Muse now uses.

What it can see

Once linked, Muse sees the accounts you connected: balances, posted transactions, account metadata. History usually reaches back 12 to 24 months, though the exact window depends on your bank and what Plaid's API exposes.

The whole connector is read-only. Muse can look at what your accounts hold, and moving money isn't in the grant.

What it can't do

This connector moves no money. Neither Meta nor Plaid has described payments of any kind through it. If that ever changes, expect a named, disclosed integration announced the way Shop Pay and PayPal were.

Your bank login stays private. Plaid tokenizes the whole flow: your credentials go to your bank alone, and Muse works with scoped access from there.

Disconnect, and the fresh data stops. Revoking the connection cuts the flow of anything new. Whether Meta deletes what Muse already pulled is a separate retention question, so confirm it directly. Don't assume.

3 questions people ask

Can Muse pay my bills or move money automatically?
No. Nothing Meta or Plaid has described gives it that power. The Plaid connector lets Muse look at your accounts. Moving money runs through separately announced rails such as Link by Stripe or PayPal, each carrying its own approval flow.

Is connecting Plaid to Muse less safe than my bank's own app using Plaid?
At the linking layer, no. Same Plaid infrastructure either way. What changes is the other side of the connection. A banking app does one thing. If someone compromises it, your bank data is what's exposed. Muse is general-purpose. It might hold your email, calendar, messages, and bank connection at once, which widens what a compromise could reach. Audit the full connector list.

Does linking Plaid mean Muse can see my full financial history forever?
It sees as far back as your bank and Plaid expose, commonly a year or two, and only while the connection stays active. Disconnect and new data stops flowing. If "forever" worries you, connect for the question at hand, then disconnect.
